Only by the association of pure
devotees when we chant and hear can we cultivate the knowledge required to
progress in our spiritual life. This verse is spoken by Kapila Dev to Devahuti.
Devahuti shared she was feeling sick of having to serve her material mind and
senses. She was aware of the suffering condition she was in, of forgetting her
real self and she was getting sick of it. This is the real qualification in
advancing in spiritual life. This is how we should feel - fed up of this
material world. Even if we are feeling dissatisfied and unlucky, maya or mind
always says don’t worry you will get it in the future. But we need to come to
the point that we are truly miserable. That’s how the conversation began and
hence Devahuti is saying to Kapila Dev, I’m fed up of this material world and
please instruct me how I can go back home, back to Godhead.
How does Rati occur – if bondage
is attraction to maya and bhakti is attraction to spiritual world. How do we
get from point A to B. So what is the process – step by step it occurs. When we
have association of the advanced devotees of the Lord and that actually begins
to replace our material attachment for spiritual attachment. That kind of
attachment of a Sadhu – who has all good qualities, that attachment makes our
attraction to material world weakens and we get connected to the spiritual
world. At this stage they are already bordering bhava bhakti and then prema
bhakti.
The process of dev service it
dissolves the subtle body of the spiritual soul which actually connects us to
the material world. Just by the process of dev service starts to dissolve the
false ego and hence there is no need for a separate endeavor. For example just
like digestion – when we eat prasadam, digestion happens automatically. Same
way just by following the process of dev. Service it starts to dissolve the
subtle body and this cleans our mirror of the heart. In the association of
devtoees = faith = attraction for the Lord = spontaneous attraction = prema.
If everything is happening
automatically where is the choice of the jiva? Jiva’s frees will is when he chooses
K over maya. We always have the choice at every step to choose K or maya. As
soon as he makes the choice everything automatically starts above. Our attitude
determines our altitude.
To digest properly, we need to
follow the 6 principles from NOI and also be aware of the 6 items which aren’t
good for digestion.
Every time we keep reinforcing
the bad habits, even though our dev service is trying to dissolve it we keep
reinforcing our false ego. We need to first recognize the bad habit and then
try to work to fix the issue. Example – when someone cuts you off, all you need
to say – I forgive you.
Nobody can clean the heart for
us, not even Guru or K, we are responsible for it and we have to be aware of
every moment to take steps in cleaning our hearts. What attachments do we have,
what are we seeing and what are we trying to let go. That is our endeavor and
then we keep getting Guru’s mercy.
Gambhira – Mahaprabhu’s house and place where he was locked
up in a house so he doesn’t get lost.
This is the best of all special
places as this is THE GAMBHIRA.
Gambhira – word means that place
where very deep and grave pasttimes take place. That place is called Gambhira.
In odiya it is also a place or a house -
a hidden room where people keep their treasures. Kasi Misra kept the greatest
treasure of Mahaprabhu in this hidden room.
Another meaning for Srimati
Radharani is also known as Gambhira. Lord locked himself in a room to cry for
himself?? To understand Mahaprabhu you also have to understand Srimati
Radharani. Why did K come here, this place?
What is the diff beween Navadwip
lila and Puri Lila? No one has ever seen it; no book has very described the
ecstacy Mahaprabhu experienced at Gambhira. His ecstacy had no bound here at
Puri – 3 things – Govardhan hill, Yamuna and Vrindavana forest. He wanted to
experience the ecstacy Radharani experienced.
Why did Mahaprabhu leave
Vrindavan and didn’t stay? Mahaprabhu is in the mood of Radha though He is
Krsna.
At the Rasa dance, Radharani left
the rasa dance and she is the heroine of the Rasa Dance. When this happened, K
also left all the gopis searching for everyone and then he sat at Imli taal
meditating for Radharani and hence his color changed to golden. Similarly, In
gaura lila he went to Imli taal and there his color changed to blackish and
Mahaprabhu was thinking this will be a big problem as if he becomes Black and
thinks about Krsna then He won’t be able to experience Radha’s mood. So he had
to go to a place which was like Vrindavan but not Vrindavan. So He came to Puri
where He got the 3 things – Govardhan Hill (Chata Parvat), Yamuna river (The
ocean) and Vrindavan forest. He also had Bimala mata and Laxmi mata here (Puri)
as without Gopis K can’t be there.
Vipralambha means – separation in the external
and union in the internal. When K left Vrindavan, Radharani couldn’t live as
she was in separation from K same way in the mood of Radharani Mahaprabhu was
in separation of Krsna. Radhrani then says take me to the shore of Yamuna near
the kadama tree and have some mud from the banks Of Yamuna smeared on my body
as these are my friends (mood of separation = Vipralambha bhav). From the mud
write the name of Shyam put tulsi leaves on it and then I’m going to die. As I
die please gather around me (telling the gopis) and then chant the names of
Krsna. We want to chant the name what
Radha likes which is Krsna. When you chant the name Radha – who comes? As soon
as I hear RA = prema bhakti and Dha = I lose myself and start running behind
that person. If you chant Radha, Krsna comes running behind you, hence we chant
the name of Krsna and then Radharani comes running behind him. O Krsna give me
Radha = that is the mood of Gaudiya Vaisnavas.
Why is Radha bhav shared with us –
Mahaprabhu is experiencing the mood of Radha Bhav to console his separation of
Radha, he brought with him many devotees so they can all console him by singing
this Holy Name and Mahaprabhu is engaging all us actually to repay the debt of
Radharani.
Why are we chanting Krsna’s name
and not Radha’s name?? We are Radharani’s devotees and we want to please
Radharani. How is she pleased when we chant Krsna’s name.
Mahaprabhu was doing kirtan at
Vamsi vat. He did Rasa lila at Srivas Angam. Radharani left the Rasa lila
because it was like a Kitchiri all kinds of gopis were there. Vamsi vat rasa
lila (Panchayati rasa)
In Chandra sarovar, only the asta
sakhis and the asta manjaris were invited for the rasa lila. In Nawadwip in
Srivas Angam it was maha maha pancayati rasa. Mahaprabhu in Nawadwip wasn’t
getting the cream of Radharani’s love as this rasa lila wasn’t confidential.
Radharani is vyavasatmika (single
pointed). At gambhira also he tasted Radha Bhav. Here for 18 years he was fully
immersed in Radha Bhav under the direction of Ramananda Raya and Swaroop
Damodar.
It is important to know what
exists, for our spiritual progress even if we don’t understand it so we know
what is the next thing coming. How is this all relevant for all of us: Puri is
the university of braj prem and each place in Puri is a classroom and in each
classroom we learn items. Gambhira is very important classroom (actually most
imp) classroom.
1. Puri
= Organized religion. Ex – Rupa, Sanatana, Hari das couldn’t come inside as
Lord supports organized religion. Mahaprabhu went there 3 times a day. Mahaprabhu
ishta dev was Jagannatha. Sadhu’s don’t disturb that because they know this is
important for everyone to progress.
2. Gambhira = shows something very private and we
should all have this. K says in BG that we should stay in a solitary place and
live alone but at the same time SP has said don’t live alone so what does it
mean. Mahaprabhu showed us with his own example to have both Puri temple like a
city but at the same time He had his private room for going deeper example is
of a cake and icing. Cake is like Puri temple (preaching part) and icing is the
Gambhira or (Bhajan part). So we need both Preaching and Bhajan to have a good
balanced spiritual life.
SP said each temple should be
self-sufficient. We should have no bureaucracy so things can happen quickly. He
said only book distribution printing should be centralized- (We could use same
principle in book distribution – have each team responsible for their own goals).
We should learn how to live in an organized religion but at the same time have
our own Gambhira (private place) where we can do our bhajan.
Individual Spontaneous and
Voluntary = ISV
Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya’s House-
He is an incarnation of
Brhaspati. He didn’t memorize slokas he memorized books. Gopinath Acarya said
even though you are incarnation of Brhaspati and you have read and memorized so
many books still you couldn’t recognize Krsna.
You can’t recognize K till you
have some mercy from Pure devotees. Sadhu says go to Shastra and Books say go
to the sadhu. Both things are very important. What is bad is jalpa and vitanda
(passion and ignorance discussion), but we want only vada discussion, just the
truth. SP gave us an imp instruction and he shared read my books as I’m always
present in my books. Just study the books and everything is in the books. In
the books it is also said find a Sadhu. SP said we have to learn from someone
who is a devotee. If someone has to learn about K they have to take lessons from
someone who knows. Both things are required, otherwise we will have an
illustion. If we separate the books from a devotee it won’t work so both things
are very important. This is the mood of Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya’s house as
just by reading books won’t help you need someone who knows Krsna.
Pasttime of Saci mata the
princess in Puri wanted to take bath in Ganga, in dream she was told Sweta
Ganga is Ganga itself. As she went in, the waves rose and there was an
underground tunnel and it took her to Puri temple. And the doors opened and she
was there with Jagannatha and next day the pujaris saw Saci mata and they
thought it was chor and put her in jail. King of Puri and head priest got a
dream that night that you need to free Saci mataji or you will be killed. They
rushed and freed her and they also begged her to become their spiritual master
and she became Ganga Mata Gosvamini.
Sri Sri Radha Rasikaraj and
damodar sila and it also has a pot which is 500 years old used by the
bhattacharya. It was also here that Mahaprabhu showed his 6 handed sadbhuj
form. We also saw the secret tunnel Mahaprabhu took everyday from Sarvabhauma’s
house to the Jagannatha temple.
Evening program by Gurudeva:
If we don’t follow Shastra we won’t
go anywhere. Maha prabhu explained this to Sarva Bhauma after He heard from him
for 7 days and 7 nights. He explained to Sarva Bhauma that we need to follow
the Shastra and use Shastra with axiomatic truth. Vital to our spiritual
practice is following the Shastra and studying it with axioms and proving each
point with supporting verses. By practicing Bhakti, one automatically gets
knowledge and advancement. Krsna reveals only to those He wants to reveal
himself to ex – Mahaprabhu gave mercy to Gopinatha Acarya.
1. We
sang Sri-Saci Tanayastaka – Ujjvala Varana.
a.
Poems are very potent, especially if they are
spiritual songs. They have an effect on us as the author has taken a lot of
effort to condense the deep realizations they have had and then share it with
others.
b.
Yam yam vapi smaran vapan – at time of death,
all the impressions from our life show. From spiritual engineering, once can
change their spiritual trajectory. When you hang around with Sadhus, the sound
you hear from them enters your ear and that changes the trajectory of your life
so you can go back home back to Godhead, it all starts with the particular sound
vibration. Singing these songs everyday, like a diet for your spiritual soul
you can transform your life and get on a spiritual trajectory. You can decide
the kind of things you want to hear during the day.

a.
Based on the sanga we become like that. A
Vaishnav is someone who gives us bad association and just accept good
association.
b.
Super soul is watching very attentively to
everything a jiva soul does and if the jiva soul abuses then the super soul is
also disturbed. It’s similar to how parents feel torture to see how children
might misuse the nice opportunity they have got. Similarly Supersoul feels very
sad to see how the jiva soul is misusing his human form of life.
c.
Preaching and book distribution is an art. We
need to find out the audience in 5-10 sec and then appeal based on that.
